Breeding

In 2003, 4 foals were expected and on June 1st the fourth and last one was born. That year the names had to start with an X. The Portuguese alphabet does not have the letters K and W that is why a jump from V to X was made. In 2004 all names had to start with a Z and in 2005 with an A.

The first to be born was X-tremo. He took one month longer in his mother's womb and made us wait extremely long. X-tremo is a stallion foal from Pahola, a Xaquiro granddaughter (Haxixe x Ciumeira) and Jacto (Devassado x Rolica). The colour of this horse remains a surprise. He was born so light that he may become bay later on. After the first moult a dark dun/smoke colour appeared. We can only know his true colour after one year. X-tremo likes to run around when all the mothers are grazing. He is elegantly built and fast. He is a particularly high legged foal and has a fantastic back and croup. He is well mannered and already lifts his feet without problems. He is getting used to a head collar, is growing the fastest of all four and already is as tall as his mum.  SOLD

Second to be born was X-tase. A very dark born mare foal of Qualita and Bailarino. She is like a horse shaped teddy bear. She is very affectionate and always comes to see us when we visit the mares and foals in the field. She already has clear white spectacles around her eyes and will become grey. Lusitano colours are very changeable and difficult to predict. X-tase is very calm and sweet. Sometimes she gets fed up with all the fuss the boys make and separates herself from all the macho behaviour. Nice to see the character of young animals so early on.  SOLD

The third was very special, his name is X-tra. This stallion foal was extra large and has big joints, like a puppy. In the beginning he had trouble standing straight on his legs, it seems he drank a bottle of whiskey.  After five weeks all became normal and he was galloping around and challenging X-tremo. The flying changes were followed by half pirouettes with ease. X-tra was born a dun, but became grey later on. X-tra was the son of the big chestnut mare Malegueta and the grey Bailerino.

19 May 2007 we lost X-tra, aged four, after a stupid accident at the place where he was being reared. We hope he can play on forever green fields with his sister Valente, twin sister of Veludo.

At the first of June the fourth foal of that year was born, he was named X-acto. He was black at birth, but will probably become grey. His mother is Java with Veiga blood and his father is Jacto with Andrade blood, a super combination and also in this foal his father's genes are clearly visible. He is an elegant high legged foal with a beautiful back and super croup. He is clearly built in the square type. His mother Java did not get peace from the day he was born, X-acto is very active and is afraid of nothing. He enjoys being stroked and approaches the other foals. The whole herd stays together day and night and forms a close group, just like in natural circumstances.

The mares have been covered again, planning for the future generations. Getting four healthy foals is very nice. We will keep you posted about their development with stories en pictures.

In 2006, 2007 and 2008 we did not breed due to preparation for our emigration to Portugal and because we had reduce the number of breeding mares to six, keeping only those with important genetic qualities.
