Half-breed Lusitanos

The main goal of 'Stichting promotie Lusitano' remains breeding pure bred Lusitano horses from approved parents... Half breed Lusitanos will not be approved at the main studbook of the A.P.S.L. in Portugal and will not be considered at studbook shows. There is however the possibility to register half breed Lusitano horses (Cruzado Portugues), e.g. in the UK or in the Netherlands. A cruzado is less valuable than a pure blood Lusitano and is not accepted as a breed, they can however be excellent sport horses....
In early May 2003 a cruzado foal sired by our approved stallion Jacto was born in Holland from an Oldenburg mare after one failed attempt to impregnate the (Donnerhall) mare in 2001. Though this attempt failed, the mare's owner Adri Gordijn (De IJzeren Man (The Iron Man)) was so impressed by the stallion that he agreed to another attempt.
The black colour of the mare proved to be dominant, but Lusitano influences can clearly be seen at for instance the low onset of the tail. The foal is long legged and has an elegant appearance. Everything is built a little bit longer than in pure bred Lusitano foals of the same stallion, but the mother is extremely long. The foal's back is also not so short as its fathers, but his positive influence is visible. The shoulders are looking very well shaped. Looking at his head this little stallion seems to have the looks of a horse with character. His name is not yet known, but will start with an X.
The Lusitano Studbook (APSL) is internationally acknowledged by the World Breeding Association of Sport horses. Foals of approved parents can therefore be eapproved. In the UK's Lusitano Studbook half breed foals can apply for a passport when one of the parents is approved. We as breeding stallion owners will do all we can to make this possible for future half breed foal owners.
Since we only use APSL approved mares and stallions, our foals will receive full pedigree papers.
