Charming Alcochete, on the edge of the Tagus River Nature Park will impress you... Opposite the 'Rio Tejo', the suburbs of Lisbon can be seen. The park is one of the few European places where wild flamingos can be spotted. On the way in the countryside, you can see cork trees and black bulls which are reared in a semi-wild environment. Sometimes one has to wait for a herd of cows on its way home for a daily health check, or for a tractor. There is still time for nature here, there is space and tranquillity.

The centre of Alcochete is full of authentic little fishermen and mussel catchers' houses, surrounded by little shops with tiled walls. The cosy restaurants in the neighbourhood are also visited by the locals. The view from the palm boulevard, named after the famous singer Amalia Rodrigues, gives a spectacular view of Lisbon at sunset.

Just outside Alcochete lies a modern outlet centre with well known established brands of clothes and shoes for surprisingly low prices. There is also a wide range of international food which is very reasonably priced. Night life is of international standard....

Lisbon is a global city full of culture. The existence of the Lusitano horse would be unthinkable without cattle herding and bull fighting. On Thursday evenings there is the possibility to observe this old tradition. In Portugal the bull is not mutilated or killed in the arena, unlike the custom in neighbouring country Spain. During the night, the guide will try to explain the event in an understandable way. It is all about the art of riding and the courage of men. The campinos will try to catch the bull with their bare hands and occasionally someone has to be carried away on a gurney... In early August Alcochete is all about wild bulls and they will even be running through the streets...

Ancient glory and culture can be found in the beautifully situated Sintra. The country houses of old nobility are now open to the public. Impressive gardens and palaces are likely to inspire you. From an unknown scenery point, miles and miles of the surroundings can be seen from Lisbon to the Atlantic coast, where in the past the explorers sailed off....

For beach lovers the mundane Cascais and Estoril are easily reachable and the protected coasts of Costa da Caparica, Sesimbra and Setubal are worth visiting. The indoor tropical swimming pools of Quinta da Marinha are famous and the Formula 1 of Estoril lies at a distance of approximately 60 km from our accommodation. The most western point of Europe's mainland is situated at Cabo da Roca and the Atlantic ocean there is very rough with high waves, which crash on the rocks....very impressive forces of nature.
