WE ARE MOVING TO ANOTHER BETTER FARM DURING MARCH

DURING THIS PERIOD WE ARE NOT ABLE TO RECEIVE CLIENTS FOR HORSERIDING OR HOLIDAYS

On this page we will keep you informed about several current things.

Summer 2008 moving to PORTUGAL!!!

For details and pictures see 'Location in Portugal'

From the end of September onwards you are very welcome with us in the home country of the Lusitano!!!

May 19, 2007 we had to put our four year old stallion X-tra to sleep, after a stupid accident at the place where he was being reared. We hope he will forever play on the ever green fields with his sister Valente, twin sister of Veludo. For more information on X-tra see page 'Breeding'.

SALITRE, pure blood Lusitano, approved as A.P.S.L. breeding stallion early October 2005
JACTO and SALITRE, November 5, 2005 both approved at the German studbook Rheinisches Pferdestammbuch e.V Germany!

Double up...

Salitre, born 1999, approved breeding stallion, 158 cm

Jacto, born. 1991, approved breeding stallion, 164 cm

After two days of studbook shows...

Before going home, a photo shoot...

Salitre is a blue eyed cremello and interesting for colour breeding

Jacto is a dark dun horse and carries the chestnut gene

Jacto and Salitre are both approved for the A.P.S.L., the Portuguese main Lusitano studbook and also for the studbook Rheinische Pferdestambuch e.V. in Germany! The latter show was at November 4 and 5, 2005 at Slot Wickrath, Germany. After several trials the selected stallions were allowed to come back on Saturday. The jury was very positive about Salitre's nice gaits and Jacto's conformation. Next spring Salitre's first foals are expected, e.g. with a Dutch warmblood (Houston) mare and a Frisian mare. Which colours these foals will have is still a surprise...

After Belgium and Dutch ribbons, we now have several German ribbons...

Many thanks to Angela, Herbert and Leonie!!!

Next Lusitano Day 2008 in the Netherlands at 14 September, probably (according to the LVN-website) in Bunschoten

Before coming to Portugal Stichting Promotie Lusitano was based in the beautifully situated park Den Heyberg in the neighbourhood of Kevelaer, Germany (near Venray over the border with Holland). The stables there were situated in former military bunkers. The green, sheltered area is ideal for horse riding. Approximately half of the park exists of holiday homes which have been styled in a southerly touch. The Portuguese riding school was welcome to the park because it offered horse riding holidays to its guests. People were welcome to bring their own horse along as well for lessons, long term trainings or recreation. A holiday home can be let from €80-, per night and has space for 6 people. The park was originally a large centre for race horses (sulkies), it has a 5 km long race track with a perfect surface which is being equalised daily. We were able to offer hacks and private lessons on our Lusitano horses. The park has a surface area of 145 ha and breaths tranquillity...

*** LUSITANO-DAY 19 SEPTEMBER 2004 ***
The 2nd Dutch Lusitano studbook show was very successful for us!!!

Several horses which were imported, mediated or bred by us were present during this day. The 4 year old mare Tijuana owned by Peter Wijnen was accepted to the adult studbook with nice results and was awarded a first position for 4 and 5 year old mares presented in hand.  In the 3 year old category the impressive young mare Urisca caught attention with her good conformation and steady gaits. It was also nice to see the mares Quejira and Quejacea (Alter Real) again. They also started their Dutch careers at Centro Lusitano.

Our smallest Lusitano, the gelding Oriz, gave public experience to the youngest student of Stichting Promotie Lusitano Geraldine Traut (13). She impressed people by her neat appearance and her beautiful seat (see www.hypofocus.com photo 097). The cremello stallion Salitre became a convincing second at the ridden 4 and 5 year old stallions. We are very proud of this horse and he is a promise for the future. His will to work made his performance true, considering he was only backed for 3 months! His training the previous summer was made possible with the help of Vanessa Rutten and Petra van Weelden. Winner of the class of ridden 4 and 5 year old stallions was Sombrero, who was bought by Mestre João Nunes dos Santos, who has been Gemma van Dijks trainer and friend for almost 17 years. Mestre João has a nice 4 year old in training again. It is the grey stallion Trinco, with a nice size of 165 cm of the Oliveira e Sousa stud in Portugal. More about Mestre João on our 'Sales' page. Sombrero was ridden by his owner Tanja Brandon, who was a student at Centro Lusitano for many years. In the category for 6 years and older stallions the by Gemma van Dijk imported big and impressive stallion Que-Habil (owned by Jan Huizink) received a fourth place.

Beautiful Lusitanos for sale: We can mediate for young and older Lusitanos of good quality. We can mediate with well knows breeders and help you to import your horse from Portugal. We can provide all the regular medical checks with x-rays. We only offer good quality horses with pedigree papers.

Young (Lusitano) horses can be backed and trained here according to the classical method, also in combination with the owner. The horse will be trained according to classical principles, which means it will not be forced but trained in the speed it can handle. An individual training program will be made with care because there are no two similar horses or riders. We keep the welfare of the horse in mind, focused on rewards, not punishments. Price on demand (training and accommodation €450-, to €500-, per month). Approximately 50 km from Lisbon.

At Adri Gordijn (De IJzeren Man) the first half blood Lusitano foal was born in 2003! See page 'Half breed Lusitanos'. His papers will be sorted out by the English Lusitano Society, which accepts foals if one of their parents is pure blood Lusitano.

GOLEGA, PORTUGAL, a tradition and reunion...

The whole Lusitano world has started planning journeys to the famous Colega in Portugal; a must see for the true lover of all tradition involved around this beautiful breed. Here you can see hundreds of Portuguese stallions together in the traditional environment of the yearly market, as always held around November 11th. This event in the native country of the Lusitano is something everyone should experience. There will be studbook shows for conformation and gaits of the 3 year old stallions in hand and the 4 year old ones under the saddle. Lusitanos form the main category, though other breeds are present as well. November 11 is the day for the traditional riders. St. Maarten (São Martinho) is the patron saint of this festival. There will be a daily parade of all the riders and amazons in the most beautiful costumes on magnificent horses.  It is a cosy reunion of Lusitano breeders, owners and lovers. A large outdoor school is surrounded by dozens of stalls of studs with their most beautiful horses. Competitions and shows alternate each other. There is a large market with so many bargains that even the largest suitcase turns out to be too small.  At night there is plenty of opportunity to go out experiencing the smoke of chestnuts, the sound of horse feet and the pleasant autumn sun...

ESCOLA PORTUGUESA DE ARTE EQUESTRE
In 2003, the Portuguese riding school from Queluz near Lisbon (with their famous bay Alter Real horses) had a show in Saumur, France. All three nights were sold out completely with a very enthusiastic and appreciating audience. The show was mixed with performances of the Cadre Noir. The most spectacular input of the French were the sauteurs; eight fat bottomed horses showed their croupades or courbettes and then cantered on happily as if nothing happened... It is really worthwhile to pay a visit to the the Cadre Noir in the lovely Loire area. On the top floor of the Saumur castle turned out to be a museum of the horse with lots of interesting and fascinating historical objects.

The summer item of the Dutch magazine Baroque has a nice report about Saumur.

Another interesting museum in France lies approximately 40 km north of Paris, in Chantilly. The living museum of the horse has a very extensive collection in a beautiful building. During the day there are often demonstrations. On the first Sunday of the month there is always a show, with lots of Portuguese and Spanish horses. The directions towards the museum are well advertised at the motorway to Paris. A nice break for if you do not want to go home immediately after your holidays...

In the 100th edition of the Dutch magazine BIT is a nice article about the school of Zingaro (Bartabas) in Versailles. In France at least they know how to treat Lusitanos and other baroque horses worthily...

CENTRO PUSSYTANO...
Perhaps unusual on this website but we would like to make a small advertisement...
