If you are interested in renting a car it is recommended to book it in your home country and collect it on arrival at the airport, which will be cheaper. It is possible to drop the car at a different location or airport (e.g. Faro or Porto). In Portugal you will always be required to show a credit card at the rental company. Motorways are usually toll roads. Roads are generally in a good condition, but less safe than in other European countries. Especially after lunch or dinner it is advised to pay extra attention, since usually meals are accompanied by wine...
Ryanair flies low-budget to Faro in the Algarve (which is approximately a 3.5 hour drive from us) and Porto in the north. A rental car is recommended in this situation or traveling by train. Another possibility is to book a coach to Lisbon, which will cost about €20-, for a single ticket. The busstop from the bus from Lisbon is very close in Alcochete. It will be possible to pick you up with your luggage!!!

Alcochete which has modern supermarkets, a charming authentic city centre and a big outlet centre. The capital can be reached via the Vasco da Gamma Bridge, which is 15 km long! On the way we have a nice, rather spectacular, view of Lisbon and the hills opposite the Tagus river. The airport lies at a distance of approximately 30 km. A new airport is being planned nearby, with construction most likely to commence in 2010.
Travel insurance is always recommended. For riders and visitors of the nature park it is wise to get a tetanus shot. Hospitals and pharmacies are nearby and modern. In most places the older 'Centro de Saùdes' are available for first aid purposes.
It is recommended to purchase mosquito repellent spray for your own protection, in which case shorts and shirts will not be a problem.
No special vaccinations are needed to visit Portugal. For drinking purposes it is better to drink mineral water and avoid tap water (also for making ice-cubes). On arrival we will make sure that several bottles of mineral water are present.
For riding lessons and hacks in and around our accommodation a certified safety hat is obligatory. Safety is highly important and we try to keep everything as safe as possible, but all riding activities will remain at your own risk.
In the apartment you will find in the future, information books in several languages...
