Shows and events

While staying at our accommodation it may be possible to visit shows and events. Whether it is a show in Golegã, or a small market with studbook shows, there is almost always something interesting to see.

On November 14th 2008 some of our own bred and imported Lusitanos were present at the 4th Lusitano Day in Holland. The day was organised by Lusitano Vrienden Nederland (Dutch Association of the Lusitano), which was founded by Gemma van Dijk. Our ex-mare Pahola and her foal reached to a nice second position at the mare and foal show.

Stichting Promotie Lusitano was present with a stall. 

We have bred Lusitanos since 1997 and are acknowledged by APSL. All our mares and stallions have been approved by the main studbook and since we follow their guidelines any foals bred by us will be approved as well. At the end of April 2009 we got a foal from our stallion Jacto (73 points) and the mare Malegueta. You can read more about this stallion in the page 'Stallions'. We occasionally also have some of our own horses for sale, this information is available in the 'Sales' section.

In September 2008 there was finally a real international Lusitano month again once more with The Netherlands at 14 September, Germany (Castell) 21 September and Belgium (Gesves) at 27-28 September. Belgium is the only country so far with a yearly event and it would be good for the promotion of the breed to have international events every year!

Calendar for upcoming events in Portugal:

• April holiday and auction of the Alter Stud (Alter Real), Alter do Chão
• Ovibeja, big agricultural show with horses in Beja, Alentejo
• May Expoégua, mare show in Golegã as opposed to the big stallion shows in November
• May Feira do Cavalo, Alcochete (local to us), traditional days with horses, full of folklore
• June Santarem, largest agricultural show of Portugal with lots of horses and competitions
• June Vila Franca de Xira, Traditional Fair with bulls and horses in the streets
• June Cascais, International Festival of the Puro Sangue Lusitano, the largest APSL show with a lot of top horses 
• 8 - 11 July 2010 Moita, Feira do Cavalo, horse show
• 6-12 of August 2010 Traditional Fair with bulls and horses in the streets of Alcochete (Festa de Bareta Verde)
